WHO WE ARE

Al-Noor Society, established in 1987 in Houston, Texas, originated from the collaborative efforts of a few dedicated individuals seeking to provide essential services to the local Muslim community. At that time, many Islamic events were not being acknowledged or celebrated. By the grace of Allah, Al-Noor emerged as a pivotal establishment in Houston, offering these much-needed services. Today, we are pleased to see the growth of other organizations acknowledging these festivities within the community.

Initially, we established a Musallah (place of worship) at 6121 Hillcroft, strategically located where a significant portion of our community shops and dines. This endeavor was made possible by a Muslim family’s acquisition of the shopping center, which allowed us to hold our prayers there until 1992. During this period, Al-Noor maximized the use of the facility, serving a large and vibrant congregation that remains one of the largest in Texas and possibly beyond. The society has witnessed exceptional participation from the Muslim community in its year-round programs and operates with nonprofit tax-exempt status under IRS (501 C).

In mid-1992, Al-Noor successfully identified a more suitable property to meet our expanding needs at 6443 Prestwood Dr., Houston, Texas. This central location is just minutes from downtown Houston and The Galleria and is conveniently situated near U.S. 59 @ Hillcroft. Our current facility accommodates 1,100 individuals and features separate prayer halls for men and women, a spacious dining room, classrooms, a funeral home, and a library. Over the past sixteen years, we have had the honor of inviting numerous esteemed scholars to address our congregation at special events.

FUTURE VISION

In an era characterized by increasing immorality and cultural challenges, alongside the detrimental infiltration of Islam by various sects claiming unique insights into salvation, Al-Noor calls upon Muslims to embrace the true principles of our faith: Islam. We promote adherence to the teachings of our Noble Prophet Muhammad (May Allah shower peace and blessings upon him) and his companions (Sahaba), along with those who followed their path. We believe that fidelity to the teachings of "Ahle-Sunnah Wal-Jamaah" (the majority group) leads to salvation.

As an institute committed to serving the community, we recognize our responsibility to safeguard the Muslim identity in North America—particularly in Houston—against such deviations while promoting a correct understanding of Islam rooted in the Quran and Sunnah. Our vision includes providing a role model for future generations; upon completion of our new Masjid building project, we aim to offer full-time education for our youth alongside comprehensive Islamic instruction. Additionally, plans are underway for adult education programs and a "Dawah" initiative dedicated to propagating Islam. We also aspire to introduce a full-time “Darul Ifta” (religious verdict) service online to enhance our existing offerings.
